The Triangle
RLCL have recently assisted Viridor Waste Management (formerly Haul Waste) in the preparation of an Environmental Impact Assessment and planning application for a new site near Romsey in Hampshire. This site, known as The Triangle is a preferred area for sand and gravel extraction in the Approved Hampshire Minerals & Waste Local Plan.
The proposals involve the excavation of approximately 2.4M tonnes of plateau gravels, which will be conveyed beneath a public highway to a processing plant within an existing nearby Viridor site. The void created will be partly backfilled with clay excavated from the northern area of the site, which will in turn provide a clay lined area for receipt of up to 2.4Mm³ of biodegradable waste. It is proposed to develop the site as an Integrated Wastes Management Facility with materials recovery, a green waste composting area and landfill disposal. Landfill gas will be collected for power generation – recovering energy from the
landfill. Ben Arnold, Project Director was responsible for co-ordinating the work of our own staff on engineering, design and the market need for the site. The work of our own staff was supplemented by specialist inputs on landscape, highways, noise, ecology, archaeology and hydrology aspects from other firms.
