Waverly
Recycling Strategy...
Len Attrill and Richard McAree have been
working with Waverley Borough Council since February 2001 in the
development of a waste and recycling strategy to increase recycling
and progress the Borough towards targets set out in Waste Strategy
2000.
The
work was undertaken in a number of key stages and included detailed
research, consultation, benchmarking and a waste analysis study.
-
Clinical and commercial waste survey - the aim of this survey was to
establish whether and if so the amount of clinical or commercial
waste that is leaking into the domestic wastestream.
-
Side/excess waste and bulky household waste study - this study
examined the problems associated with side/excess waste collections
and bulky household waste services and the policy of various
authorities in dealing with them.
-
Waste
analysis study - this study was arranged by Robert Long Consultancy
through a third party consultant and has produced some very
enlightening results as to where Waverley Borough Council should
concentrate their recycling efforts.
Other research and benchmarking has been undertaken with respect to
cardboard recycling, bring-bank recycling, environmental purchasing
and real nappy initiatives.
Councillor John Sandy, Executive Portfolio Holder for Environment at
Waverley comments “The Robert
Long Consultancy work has certainly identified some key issues for
change in delivering our waste services and helped us work towards
achievement of our recycling standards. The RLCL team were
professional and delivered on time, within the budget.” |
