Two Stars
Plus for Waverly...
Under the Best Value regime, the Audit Commission can
award three (highest), two, one or no stars to services it inspects.
To date only one Council has received a three-star rating for its
waste services. But Waverley Borough Council has received a two-star
rating and the report said that the services had promising
prospects for improvement.
Furthermore, the
Council’s plans to achieve their recycling rates of 24% by 2003/4 and
36% by 2005/6 have been recognised with funding from DEFRA; whilst
waste minimisation plans have attracted funding from an environmental
trust.
The services have
been thoroughly reviewed and reshaped during the past 18 months or so
and Len Attrill and Richard McAree have been supporting Waverley’s
Officers and Members through the process. Len says “It’s
satisfying to work with a Council throughout the process, particularly
with a team like Waverley’s which is committed to improvement”.
Peter Maudsley,
Waverley’s Director of Environment & Leisure says “Robert Long
Consultancy has been incredibly helpful to us at Waverley and we would
unhesitatingly recommend them to others”. The project was led by
Len Attrill.
