Annual Review December 2002

Valuing Council Trade Waste Businesses...

A regular question arising from RLCL’s refuse service review work for local authorities is “what shall we do with our trade waste business?”.  The answer, of course, varies from client to client, but this year RLCL has advised several authorities that a separate sale is worth considering as it raises funding and reduces the long-term administrative burden.  Contractors generally show concerted interest in trade waste sales and competition can be generated.

An example of a successful sale is Portsmouth City Council, where the incoming refuse collecting contractor, Onyx, purchased the trade waste business as a going concern.

Valuing a trade waste business requires a review of financial and operational information and an analysis of future performance and potential.  Matthew Sellwood, a rising star in our local authority team, has been involved in most of our valuation projects - and knows how to spot a bargain!
