WMRL continues to
grow...
Waste Management
Research Limited is an Environmental Body managed by staff from RLCL
with experience of over 80 ENTRUST approved and landfill operator
funded projects. This year WMRL has welcomed Thames Waste and
Biffaward as new contributors.
One of the largest
projects started this year was Stanton Experimental Composting
Project, which has been funded by Viridor Waste Management via the
Landfill Tax Credit Scheme. This project is a 12-month trial to test
the viability of using mushroom composting technology in green waste
composting and to see whether the resulting compost could be used for
commercial mushroom production. The project is now three-quarters of
the way through and whilst several technical issues have presented
challenges, the results are encouraging. The project value will be
£350,000 over the twelve months trial. This is a good example of a
“Category C” project i.e., research into more sustainable wastes
management practices which the Government is keen to encourage.
