Clean streets are high on the list of priorities for many local authorities and especially so in historic towns and cities where tourism is an important part of the economy.

Following a fundamental restructuring of Streetscene services, RLCL was commissioned to evaluate the effectiveness of the operation and advise on future arrangements – all with the aim of assessing priorities and guiding procurement.  Extensive field observations and an in-depth consultation process found an effectively managed service delivering high quality results.  We made a number of recommendations on increasing the value for money of these services, and Cambridge is now seeking residents’ views on prioritisation.

Review and procurement of Streetscene services, including street cleansing, grounds maintenance, public conveniences and other services, such as  graffiti removal, are an important and growing sector for RLCL.
