Waste Analysis: it's a dirty job...
...but an essential task for the development of a successful
Recycling Strategy. Our team has been busy in Bournemouth,
Spelthorne and Shepway picking through and sorting domestic
waste.
The process starts with ACORN (A Classification of Residential
Neighbourhoods) which is used to establish the socio-economic
make-up of a borough / district. From here, and combined with
local knowledge, specific areas are targeted for analysis.
Domestic waste is collected and hand sorted into a number of
categories and weighed.
The resulting Waste Analysis data is used to model the future
recycling performance required to meet Local Authority targets
for recycling, taking into account, waste growth, population
growth, existing collection arrangements and the implementation
of recycling initiatives.
The waste analysis provides the essential foundations on which
to develop a waste strategy, forecasting future waste generation
and recycling requirements. |
