Fridge update...
In our last review we reported the progress made on managing the
‘Fridge Mountain’ expected as a result of the introduction of
the Regulations on Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).

Fridge Processing Plant
Our Client MDJ Light Brothers (SP) Ltd owns and operates a
mobile fridge processing unit at their transfer station in
Lewes. By July 2002 RLCL had successfully obtained planning
permission for the storage of refrigerators and operation of a
Stage I mobile processing plant. Both permissions have also
recently been granted time extensions. In August 2003, planning
permission was granted for the operation of a Step II processing
plant within the quarry.
The Step II process, as shown in the photograph, completely
destroys the refrigerator unit and prevents the fugitive release
of ODS. The unit is capable of processing up to 60 refrigerators
per hour and has had a significant effect in reducing the fridge
mountain.
