Permission Granted...

East Sussex County Council has granted permission for a time extension to the fridge storage and processing operations at Greystone Quarry, Lewes.

The Planning Application was prepared and submitted by RLCL on behalf of M.D.J. Light Brothers. The permission allows fridge operations to continue at Greystone Quarry for a further five years until 2008.

Jonathan Light commented "This permission has secured the immediate future for our groundbreaking fridge disposal service, and enables us to continue to provide a safe and environmentally sound solution to the fridge crisis locally and in the region."

The site is  in an AONB, but due to its location at the base of a disused quarry, the operations have little environmental impact. In granting planning permission East Sussex County Council recognised this, along with the strategic importance of the operation.

Further details are given in the December 2002 Annual Review.
