Trumps
Farm landfill restoration programme
(9 February 2001)
Trumps Farm is a former sandpit which was used by Surrey County
Council for the disposal of household waste from the early
1980's until its closure in 1998. The site covers approximately
17 hectares.
During spring 2000, RLCL were commissioned by Surrey County
Council to prepare and administrate a contract to restore the
site. The works carried out under the first phase of this
contract included the establishment of a soil profile suitable
for final landscaping and the enlarging, deepening and
reprofiling of an existing pond to create a nature conservation
wetland area.
The second phase of the restoration works shall include the
final landscaping requirements. The overall intention of this
contract is to reinstate the landfill to mainly agricultural
grazing and meadow, with a landscape character similar to that
prior to the construction of the M3 and M25 motorways.
Areas of woodland and transverse hedgerows are to be planted to
reduce the visual impact of the site and create a field pattern
which fits in with the character of the surrounding landscape.
New planting will generally be native species similar to those
found in the surrounding area. This will have a major role in
integrating the site with its surroundings, creating a variety
of wildlife habitats.
The final landscaping strategy is currently being tendered and
the works are expected to commence in early March 2001.
