Robert Long Consultancy has a proven track record in landfill engineering, through the planning, construction and implementation of practical designs. We ensure that our advice and services are cost effective and in accordance with the standards demanded by the Environment Agency.

A key element of the landfill design stage is a thorough evaluation of the design options and construction materials available for engineering containment and restoration.

This includes the technical design and specification of all aspects of lining systems; the sub-grade, natural and synthetic protection layers and leachate collection and removal systems.

We have considerable experience of single and composite lining and capping systems incorporating natural and synthetic materials, such as clay, geomembranes and geosynthetic clay.

Risk assessment is becoming an important tool in the evaluation and design of landfill sites. Our staff are suitably trained and experienced to conduct risk assessments using computer aided modelling packages, in particular LandSim.

Once the landfill design is complete and approved, we are able to prepare the contract documentation, advise upon suitable contractors, administer the tender process and award the contract for the construction of the site on behalf of our clients.

An alternative approach that is adopted by some clients is to invite 'design and build' packages and we have experience of working with major engineering contractors in this way. Partnering arrangements with clients and lead contractors are a recent development which encourage best value and improved service delivery.
