Located Damage

A highly effective Damage/Leak Detection System, SENSOR DDS, was first developed in 1991 to detect damage to geomembrane liners which are used for municipal and hazardous waste landfills, industrial wastes, lagoons, tanks, sedimentation basins and similar facilities that use geomembranes.

Damage to the geomembrane is detected by electric current flow and not the seepage of liquid.  This means that the potential for liquid leakage through the liner can be detected before serious environmental damage occurs.

Special sensors are installed under the geomembrane liner during construction of the containment site.  These sensors are connected by wire to a central control box located at the side of the containment area.  After completion of drainage /cover layers, an electric source above the liner is activated and any current abnormality resulting from a damaged liner area is detected.  The data acquired on site is interpreted by the special software which produces three dimensional graphics identifying the actual damage positions.  The locations of these potential leakage points are advised to the site within a few hours permitting exposure of the damaged areas and liner repair before the site is put into service.

The system is available to perform for a period ranging from 6 months to 20 years.  After completion of construction and testing for damage and repair as required, the geomembrane liner is certified to be "damage free".  Subsequently, periodic inspections can be arranged to suit the customer's requirements to monitor the integrity of the liner system.  In addition, a continuous monitoring system - SENSOR DDS-CMS™ is also available.  Any damage occurring is immediately notified to the customer.

SENSOR DDS has been successfully installed since 1991 in many countries on over 100 projects involving over 1 million m² of liner system.  Key attributes of the system are as follows:-

Rapid and precise detection of damaged areas in geomembrane liners after construction completion.

Systems are available for monitoring for long periods.

Simply and quickly installed.

Detects the potential for leakage before significant environmental pollution can occur.

Used for solid waste landfills, hazardous waste containment areas, industrial waste lagoons, tanks, mining ponds, sedimentation basins and all similar facilities using geomembranes.
